What if a Rapid Instant EFT payment shows as Aborted in portal but was actually paid?

In rare occasions, an Rapid Instant EFT payment shows as Aborted in the Rapid Instant EFT portal, while it was actually transferred from the customer's bank to the merchant's bank (and also showing on both customer's and merchant's statement).

In these cases the following likely happened:

  • The customer started a Rapid Instant EFT transaction that created the beneficiary in their internet banking
  • The customer logged out of their internet banking before fulfilling the payment, this closed the Rapid Instant EFT session;
  • Later the customer logged in again and fulfilled the pending beneficiary;

This doesn't update the Rapid Payments systems because the payment is not related to Rapid Instant EFT anymore.

To guarantee that this is the case, please check on your merchant bank statement to see if you received the funds. If this is the case you can be sure that the transaction was successful and in this case please update your systems manually.
